Purpose

Bredell Tutoring Academy is a tutor centre, not a school. This Code of Conduct exists to protect learners and staff, create a calm learning environment, and encourage good character and values.

By attending the centre, learners and parents/guardians agree to follow this Code of Conduct. We aim to enforce it fairly, consistently, and respectfully.

1. Core values

  • Respect: for self, others, property, and the learning environment
  • Integrity: honesty in work, behaviour, and communication
  • Responsibility: taking ownership of choices, effort, and actions
  • Kindness: helpfulness, patience, and inclusion
  • Safety: keeping everyone physically and emotionally safe

2. Expected behaviour

  • Arrive on time and be prepared to learn
  • Follow tutor instructions and centre routines
  • Use appropriate language and speak respectfully
  • Allow others to work without disruption
  • Complete tasks honestly (no cheating or copying)
  • Look after centre equipment and keep spaces neat

3. Unacceptable behaviour

  • Bullying, teasing, intimidation, or exclusion of others
  • Physical aggression, threats, or fighting
  • Disruptive behaviour that prevents learning
  • Damage to property (intentional or reckless)
  • Stealing or dishonesty
  • Harassment of any kind (including online or messages)

4. Technology & devices

Devices may be used only when permitted for learning activities. We recommend that phones stay on silent and away during sessions unless needed for a specific learning task.

  • No recording or photographing other learners/staff without permission
  • No sharing of private learner/staff information
  • Internet use must be safe and appropriate

5. Attendance, punctuality & work ethic

  • Regular attendance supports progress and consistency
  • Repeated lateness disrupts learning and may lead to parent contact
  • Learners must participate and attempt work to the best of their ability

6. Safety rules

  • Stay within designated areas unless supervised
  • No rough play that can cause injury
  • Report unsafe behaviour, bullying, or concerns to a tutor immediately
  • Follow all emergency procedures during drills or emergencies

7. Parent/guardian responsibilities

  • Ensure learner attendance and punctuality
  • Provide accurate emergency and medical details
  • Support the centre’s behavioural expectations at home
  • Communicate respectfully with staff, and raise concerns promptly

8. Consequences & discipline process

Discipline is applied progressively and fairly. The level of response depends on the seriousness and frequency of behaviour.

  • Step 1: Verbal warning and guidance (corrective coaching)
  • Step 2: Written note / behaviour reflection task
  • Step 3: Parent/guardian contact and behaviour plan
  • Step 4: Temporary suspension (where necessary)
  • Step 5: Termination of enrolment for serious/repeated misconduct

9. Serious incidents (zero tolerance)

The following may result in immediate suspension and a formal review:

  • Violence or threats of violence
  • Bullying or harassment that endangers others
  • Bringing dangerous items to the centre
  • Severe disrespect or repeated refusal to comply with staff instructions

10. Updates

This Code of Conduct may be updated from time to time. Parents will be notified of significant changes.
